Buying Paints.

Posted by jodain on May 18, 2009

Normally I avoid going into Games Workshop to purchase paints, however I knew I was short on Dwarf Bronze and some of my greys have started to dry up (really need to use them more often).  So I went in on Saturday to GW in Canterbury and as we went in I said to Kim “I’ll ask what I’m painting at the moment.”  I pick up the paints go to the counter and the first words out of his mouth is “So what are you painting at the moment?”  Well the answer Wolves of Orboros leave the guy stumped and the responce “Never heard of them.”  I state that they are for “Hordes” gives the responce “So do you play any of our games.”  To which I state “I’ve moved on.”  The look on his face was priceless and well worth the pain of going in there.  Still on with the painting!

Some figures finished

Posted by jodain on May 13, 2009

Well at last I can say that I have some more figures painted, well all but their bases anyhow.  I have got the Sentry Stone, 2 Woldwatchers and the War Wolf finished off apart from painting the bases green, flocking and then black ringing them.  Progress is being made!

I have also decided to swing to GW’s Dwarven Bronze for the armour of the Wolves of Orboros it goes on the figure better, covers just as well and looks good.  So the paint table currently has the 12 Wolves still looking at me, the 2 Blackclad Wayfarers and a Woldwryd awaiting a little green wash on the eye!

I will get there I will.

Pictures to follow.

Painting ARGH!

Posted by jodain on May 6, 2009

I got fed up last night painting the trim on the armour of the Wolves of Orboros. The Molten Bronze that I have runs as well as jelly you shake the pot of paint and get none caught in the top, conversely of course it covers wonderfully.  So I have decided to get some other figures on the painting table that are a little different.  Hopefully I can get this lot finished on time – I still need to assemle the Lord of the Fest though.

Gardening

Posted by jodain on May 3, 2009

Good sunny weather and obviously that most mean Gardening time, oh how I love gardening.  Anyhow it has been a fuitful day.  Kim has spent the afternoon tidying up the front garden and define the borders from the lawn, although I’m not sure which plants are going to grow back :-) .  I spent the afternoon cleaning up behind the summer house and then painting the fence with creosoting some parts of the fence that I had never seen until Paul helped me take the old big shed down.  I then started to put together the new plastic shed that we bought to put the gardening tools in, low and behold the door hinges are missing, ARGH!!!!  B&Q had closed so guess we’ll be off there in the morning and then I really must get some school work done, lots of coursework to mark.

Uncharted Sea

Posted by jodain on May 1, 2009

So I got into 2 games of Uncharted Seas in the shed tonight, one against the Orks and the other against the Elves.  The Ork game was looking close to start with and then the luck of the dice swung to my Ork opponent who happily creamed my Dwarf fleet.  I conceeded the game with a damaged Battleship and an undamaged Cruiser against 1 Battleship, 1 Cruiser and 5 Frigates, all of which were in boarding range!  The game against the Elves only lasted three turns due to time constraints.  I tried to maneuver around an Island and get upwind of the Elves, unfortunately they move way to fast for that, however sailing into the broadside of a Battleship is not the best idea even for the Elves.  The game finished with 2 Cruisers sunk by each side and 1 frigate sunk by the Elves, leaving the Elves up one side.  I’m sure things would have changed in the next turn.

Uncharted Seas is a a great game which runs really fast, if you haven’t looked at it go visit the site at Spartan Games.
